Technology Platform for Microbial Genome Research (TPMG) - Bioinformatics

Within the framework of the BMBF-funded GenoMik initiative launched in 2001 a successful research infrastructure has been developed in the areas of DNA-sequencing and annotation, bioinformatics, and proteome analysis with centers at the universities of Göttingen, Bielefeld and Greifswald. These centers formed the backbone of the research work carried out in the GenoMik networks and were further developed to a Technology Platform for Microbial Genome Research (TPMG) which provides the expertise in the above mentioned areas in close co-operation with the research groups of GenoMik-Plus.

The TPMG- Bioinformatics offers services for the bioinformatics interpretation of data arising from genomic and postgenomic analyses. The various, in-house developed software modules are provided to co-operating partners via Web-based services. Services of the platform concerning genomics comprise the assembly and annotation of bacterial genomes as well as the evaluation of sequence data resulting from metagenome analyses employing the GenDB programme. In the field of  transcriptomics, the EMMA software is provided for the evaluation of data resulting from genome-wide transcriptomic studies. The access to stored data is mediated by the BRIDGE software module which integrates all data sets.
